Aguas Frescas

Today is your lucky day, my friends. It’s National Relaxation Day! Now there’s a national day I’m sure we all can get behind. To celebrate ― ‘cause we love celebrations around here ― I’ve rounded up some simple and easy recipes for you to enjoy.

Whoever came up with National Relaxation Day really nailed it. A round of applause y todo! Don’t we sometimes need a reminder to slow down and relax? Sure, we have our weekends, but let’s not count those. They’re freebies ― sort of like the “free” spaces in Bingo. They’re a given, but you’re hella glad they’re there. Hashtagbingolife

Many people like to relax with a drink in hand. And, when I think of relaxation, a particular refreshing drink comes to mind: the beloved Agua Fresca, translated as “fresh water.” Made by combining particular types of fruit (or even flowers, seeds, and grains), sugar, and water, aguas frescas have been a staple in Mexico and among Latino communities in the United States for decades. And, these popular drinks are especially great to enjoy during the unrelenting days of summer.

Aguas frescas are nonalcoholic, of course, but we can always change that. I’ve listed three easy-to-make aguas frescas recipes below and included the option to enjoy it spiked, just in case you want to take your relaxation game to the next level. Your call.

How will you celebrate this National Relaxation Day? Will you try making your own aguas frescas at home, or have another drink recipe you'd like to share with us? Let us know in the comments below!

Cheers, and happy relaxin’!
